On Jan 31, 2022, Stockton Fire Capt. Max Fortuna was shot death by a homeless man while battling a dumspter fire.
According to yahoo news, Engine 2 received a call for a Dumpster fire near Aurora and Washington streets near the Crosstown Freeway at about 4:45 a.m. Fortuna, 47, was hit by gunfire as crews worked the scene.
A 67-year-old man, Robert Somerville, has been arrested by police. Fortuna, 47, served the Fire Department for more than 21 years. He is survived by a wife and two children.
The area that Fire Capt. Fortuna was murdered has an out of control homeless population. There are dumpster fires set by homeless, all the time. Buildings have been set on fire.
In a statement by Stockton City Council District 3 Candidate, Shoua Lo said, " It is a tragedy how Stockton Fire Captain Max Fortuna died. The community has lost a hero. This shows how the city has an out of control homeless crisis."
